Poor Mother

As I was waiting for class to start, I heard a lady talk on the phone about her mother. It was one of the most heart breaking stories I’ve ever heard. The lady lived in Virginia with her husband and her mother lived here in NYC by herself. One day the mother fell and couldn’t get up. The daughter didn’t know and she called and called and after 5 days decided to come and see what’s up. The poor woman had been laying on the floor for five days. She had defecated on herself and had developed ulcers all over. The description was intense. She woman also had dementia and a variety of other problems.

Her daughter is taking classes at NYU and trying to organize an appointment for the her mom who was 80 something years old…that’s why I was able to over hear this entire conversation.

This really got to me, because this lady is so stressed out worrying about her mother and I couldn’t help thinking what I’d do if that was my mom or grandma. The dementia part was also sad to hear. The woman thought her daughter was her sister. That’s heartbreaking…having to correct your mom all the time and tell her what’s going on.

I hope my grandma stays as strong as she is now, she’s 82 but looks like she’s 60 (atleast in my eyes) =) Mami and Papi are troupers too.
