The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Not only do I commend Stephen Chbosky for the way he executed this unique style (letters written to an anonymous character) but I also thank him for creating a character that so eloquently described how I perceive the world.

Although the main character, Charlie is a freshman in high school and I’m about to be a senior in college I think we would get along pretty well. Actually as I read the book I wished Charlie was a real person because he seems like a cool friend to have.

It’s interesting, I mentioned this book to a friend and they said it was entertaining while they read it but once they were done they felt like they got nothing out of it. I can understand why they would feel that way but I feel completely different. Since the book was made up of letters, I knew the ending wasn’t going to be neatly tied up. I suppose I expected a cliffhanger of some sort, and I feel that’s what I got. But I understood so much of what Charlie was experiencing, and I fell in love with Sam and Patrick that it really didn’t matter. The journey made up for what the destination lacked.

Anyways this is all to say that this is one book I’ll probably read again. I got some good lessons out of it and it was very enjoyable. I’ll also probably will go see the movie.
