I never could trust a New Yorker
So I’m walking into my train station and I walk past this couple (teenagers), I pay them no mind and head to the turnstile. I take out my wallet to get my metro card and I feel a tap on my shoulder. The guy was handing me a metro card. I just said “what?” Yea I should have something like “excuse me” but I had my ipod on and I was a bit confused. He said “It’s an unlimited” so I took it and said “thank you”. He walked away and when he was by the door he yelled back “Merry Christmas.” I was still confused so I kinda looked back but I didn’t say anything I just swiped and headed to the platform. On the way up I checked all my pockets to make sure I hadn’t been robbed. He did tap me after all, I would be so pissed if I he had given me a metro card that expires tomorrow but had taken something way more valuable. Turns out he didn’t. So I texted my brother told him what happened and we tried to figure out why a complete stranger would give me metro card. We came up with nothing. Apparently there are just some good people out there. I figured it was one of those one day unlimited cards and he didn’t need it anymore so he gave it to me.
It’s pretty sad that I just didn’t take it as an act of kindness, especially so close to the holidays. What’s crazy is that once I got on the train I’m starting to get all emotional and thinking there are so many nice people in the world but we are so caught up that we don’t notice. (yea I’m taking it too far) Then this guy on the train gets up to get off and when he turns around there’s a blade sticking out his back pocket….seriously. Now I don’t usually see people carrying blades with them just because it’s not like hand sanitizer, you don’t need it from time to time. So I thought nothing good of this. He walked out, no super cool violent scene, but I was in limbo after seeing these two things. Not too sure whether I should be more trusting or just stay as hesitant as before.
