The gears are turning today, can’t stop writing. I use the term “Christian” way too liberally. I do consider myself religious. I have read the bible, I don’t know it as well as I should though, considering I’ve been listening to the stories and reading them since I was about 6. I attempt to live like a Christian, after all Christianity is, or should be a way of life not just a title. Yet, I’m failing horribly and I have plenty of doubts. So calling myself a Christian may seem like false advertising to some people, which makes sense when I hear [being religious is like being in a “cult” of hypocrites]. Or something around those lines.

ON THE OTHER HAND I think people need to take into consideration that being a Christian or whatever religion a person identifies with is a work in progress. You aren’t religious because you do everything right. People don’t go to church because they are the perfect example of purity. We do this because we aspire to be there, although we all know we can’t be God. One thing I was told and really took to heart is that we go to church for the word of God. Not for the pastor not for the rest of the people in the congregation. So if you go to a church and see things you don’t like, please don’t jump to conclusions. That individual may still be working on his/her holiness.

I personally see religion as a journey, as you grow older and experience things I think having a relationship with God will be easier. However, this shouldn’t be an excuse to sin like a mad woman until I’m 40 and then decide I should start being holy so I can get to heaven. An effort has to be made, now. I’m sure there’s more than a few people that disagree with me on this. I just feel it’s unfair to say someone is a hypocrite just because they aren’t following everything to the letter. They may not be there yet, the bible does say we aren’t perfect.

So because I’m rambling I’ll stop now, but I think I’ll continue to say I’m Christian because I do believe. However I may start offering an explanation.
